America-Nepal Society, established in 1967, is one of the oldest organizations related to Nepalese and Friends of Nepal living in the USA. This is a non profit organization working exclusively for charitable, literary and educational activities. The activities ANS has done over the years are for fostering greater knowledge and understanding of literature, arts, cultures, values, manners, social customs, and other facts of diversities and similarities among Americans and Nepalese in the USA.

The ANS Executive Committee (Board) has considered and approved the recommendations proposed by the Special Commission headed by Ms. Kathie Stein and two members Dr. Shyam Karki and Mr. Kris Ghimire regarding the current ANS bylaws and the holding of elections to the ANS Executive Committee on October 18, 2008. The Special Commission held a meeting on September 28 and heard remarks by a representative of the ANS Board and the petitioners. Based on these suggestions and the Special Commission's own deliberations, the Commission recommended an appropriate course of action. Based on those recommendations, the Election Committee will reopen nominations to the ANS Board. The Election Committee will announce the period during which new nominations can be submitted, the qualifications recommended by the Special Commission and other procedures it deems appropriate.

As we all know, our homeland is being ravaged by extreme monsoon rain and floods primarily Terai region. It has already taken over 90 innocent lives and this number is going up while over 300,000 people have been left displaced or homeless. Loss of livelihood and damage of infrastructure has become major hurdle to the daily lives of affected region. Nepal government has already made appeal to international community to help those flood victims. Therefore, America Nepal Society is requesting the entire community members for your compassionate assistance to those flood victims.
